Oral Surgery

Wisdom tooth extraction, bone grafting, sinus lift and apicectomy — pre- and post-implant surgical protocols.

Pre-surgical oral surgery consultation at Bergedent Istanbul

Surgical assessment

Surgical procedures are evaluated together with anatomy, healing potential, and restorative goals.

What Is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery covers tooth extractions (simple and complex), impacted tooth operations, bone grafting, sinus lifts, alveolar ridge augmentation and apical surgery. The majority of these procedures form the surgical preparation phase of implant treatment.

At Bergedent, all surgical procedures are performed in a sterile environment with appropriate local anaesthesia protocols. For impacted wisdom tooth operations, 3D CBCT imaging provides safe surgical planning according to nerve and vascular anatomy.

Surgical Procedure Areas

Complex Extractions

Controlled surgical extraction of impacted, angulated or fractured teeth.

Bone Grafting

Reinforcement of insufficient bone volume before implants with autogenous, allograft or xenograft materials.

Sinus Lift

Sinus floor elevation in the posterior upper jaw — lateral and transcrestal techniques.

Apical Surgery

Surgical resection of the root apex in endodontic failure or root tip abscess cases.

Surgical case planning coordination with the Bergedent team

Case coordination

When grafting, extraction, and implants intersect, the stages are combined under one coordinated plan.

Surgical Process

01

Radiological Assessment

Periapical and panoramic radiography; 3D anatomical analysis with CBCT when required.

02

Surgical Planning

Procedure type, approach and required graft materials are determined. Patient is informed.

03

Surgical Application

Procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia; sedation support can be provided where appropriate.

04

Healing Follow-up

Control appointment, suture removal and healing monitoring. Bone consolidation is awaited for implant suitability.

Surgical Indications

  • Impacted or semi-impacted wisdom teeth
  • Extraction of teeth that cannot be restored
  • Horizontal/vertical bone deficiency before implants
  • Sinus lift for posterior upper jaw implants
  • Cyst and granuloma resection
  • Root apex apicectomy (failed root canal treatment)

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does impacted wisdom tooth extraction take?

Typically 30–60 minutes for a single impacted tooth. This may vary according to tooth position and depth of bone impaction. CBCT analysis allows more efficient planning of the procedure time.

When is bone grafting necessary?

Grafting is applied when post-extraction bone volume loss is insufficient for the planned implant diameter. It is usually performed simultaneously with extraction (socket preservation) or as a separate session before implant placement.

Is a sinus lift painful?

No pain is felt under local anaesthesia; mild pressure and sinonasal sensitivity in the following days are normal. Seeing blood when blowing the nose after the procedure is an expected finding.

When can I eat after surgery?

Soft, cold or warm foods can be consumed after the anaesthesia wears off. Hot, spicy and hard foods are not recommended in the first 48 hours.
